Shell to close Clyde Refinery
12-04-2011 Other. Shell today announced a proposal to convert its Clyde Refinery and Gore Bay Terminal in Sydney Australia into a fuel import terminal.
Shell claims the 75,000 barrel per day Clyde Refinery is no longer competitive against new mega-refineries in the region.
Although the carbon tax was not mentioned, we feel that it would have played a roll in their decision.
Oil refineries will qualify for free carbon permits, but not enough to cover all carbon emissions.
